This deceptively naughty short feature comes to us from Blue Artichoke films, a small Dutch company dedicated to emotional realism in porn and movie-like quality. Director Jennifer Lyon Bell is one to watch and received an honourable mention for this voyeuristic delight at the 2009 Feminist Porn Awards. The premise? Stage actors Mariah and Daniel are in a play that involves a live sex scene. The conflict? They can’t stir up the chemistry needed to make their scene as enticing as it should be. Solution: They have to forget for a while that they’re actors and instead let passion take over. What we then get is an ultra-realistic sex scene performed on a theatre stage before a very (ahem) engaged audience. This is voyeuristic porn at its best with realistic sex, natural bodies and two actors who’ve never done the deed on camera before. Bell’s tenure in the mainstream industry shines through and gives this surprisingly erotic film a distinctly non-porn-y feel. A great choice for couples and anyone who enjoys a good story with passionate sex.
Bonus: A “Making of Matinee” mini-doc
